Bill Vander Zouwen
Pheasants Forever Regional Rep
Bill Vander Zouwen serves as the Pheasants Forever Regional Representative for Michigan. Bill is returning home to Michigan after spending 35 years in Wisconsin, where he moved to earn a Master’s degree in Wildlife Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduate school, he served as the Farmland Wildlife Researcher, Upland Game Staff Specialist, and Wildlife Ecology Section Chief for Wisconsin DNR. During the 20 years he served as Section Chief, he provided oversight for all of the statewide game management programs ranging from pheasants and turkeys to waterfowl to deer and bears. Bill grew up in and near Grand Rapids, Michigan and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Grand Valley State University. Bill looks forward to working closely with chapter volunteers and with colleagues he already knows well from the Michigan DNR, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and other conservation organizations on the Michigan Pheasant Restoration Initiative. Bill has a passion for upland game management and for youth programs. He has partnered with Pheasants Forever on projects and staffing in Wisconsin for over 25 years. He also served as a youth camp counselor, youth church school teacher, and boys club leader. In his spare time, Bill will be looking forward to hunting pheasants, ruffed grouse, and waterfowl with his yellow lab Tony, his family, and both old and new friends.
Michigan Outreach Coordinator
Bill Fischer serves as the Michigan Outreach Coordinator. He, as the President of the Saginaw Chapter of PF, last year accepted the Outstanding Youth Program award at the State Convention. Since then, Bill stepped up to coordinate the 2015 Lake Hudson Great Outdoor Youth Jamboree along with DNR staff. Bill knows how chapters operate and the challenges you face. He also knows well the Pheasants Forever programs and opportunities, because he took advantage of many of them. With that knowledge and experience, he’s in a great position to help you expand your outreach and education programs and influence.
Adopt-A-Game-Area Coordinator (AAGAC)
Ben has a Master’s of Science Degree from the University of Wyoming, where he focused on the economics of conservation in agricultural landscapes. He worked a year as a conservation intern for Ducks Unlimited, where he planned and executed wetland and grassland restoration projects, wrote grant proposals to secure funds, administered grant funds, and developed relationships with funding partners. He most recently worked as the District Manager for the Washtenaw County Conservation District in Ann Arbor. Ben's primary duties will be to develop project ideas on state lands, raise funds for the projects, contract project work with vendors, and develop publicity and recognition for contributors and projects. Projects will occur on a DNR approved list of state lands provided by DNR in the Michigan Pheasant Restoration Initiative counties. The coordinator will solicit grassland restoration project funds from chapters, clubs, businesses, agencies, foundations and individuals. We expect that this program will greatly expand awareness of Pheasants Forever in Michigan and yield greater support both in funding and volunteering for our mission.
Wildlife Cooperatives Coordinator
Morgan Jennings joined as the Wildlife Cooperatives Coordinator, a position supported by Pheasants Forever, Quality Deer Management Association, Michigan DNR and Michigan United Conservation Clubs, in May of 2018. Morgan's background includes a degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Michigan - Flint, multiple wildlife management and communication internships, a position with the Genesee Conservation District (GCD) as their Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) technician and Soil Conservation Technician. Both positions lead to extensive work with Farm Bill programs and outreach to local agricultural producers about conservation programs. Morgan's role is to assist private landowners in creating, maintaining and expanding wildlife cooperatives throughout the entire state. A cooperative is a group of landowners and hunters that work collaboratively to manage a species and its habitat. There are over 350,000 acres being managed under a cooperative, with 5,000 participating individuals. This coordination focuses mainly on pheasants and deer, but a diverse group of wildlife and environmental factors benefit including pollinators and water quality. Educational workshops and outreach events are a significant part of the program to keep cooperative members engaged and informed on management techniques, wildlife diseases, hunting regulations and more. This outreach extends to Pheasants Forever Chapters and potential members throughout Michigan.
